WHO WE ARE

ABOUT OUR TEMPLE

BRIEF FROM HISTORY

A group of Buddhists discussed with Phrakrusiriattavidhes, General Secretary of The Council of Thai Bhikkhus in the U.S.A., this intention when he came to lead a vipassana meditation course in Pittsburgh several times. Until the agreement to establish a temple was made, Phrakrusiriattavidhes took the group of Buddhists to Phrarajmongkonrungsri (Luang Ta Chi), the Abbot of Wat Thai Washington, D.C., to ask for supervision. He then agreed on the founding of a temple in Pittsburgh and also gave very useful advice. In addition, he assigned Phrakrusiriattavidhes to lead the project.

OUR VISION

A place where a person with no temple background can come and feel comfortable and enjoy the service because the atmosphere will be friendly. The sermons are always practical, biblical and relevant. The music is contemporary and upbeat with a praise team and full band.

These dreams are being fulfilled because they are inspired by Buddha!

A temple that is fun for the entire family, a church where kids want to go because they have a great time experiencing Buddha’s love. A temple that builds families.

OUR MISSION

The BMCP was created to preserve the Theravada forest meditation tradition within the context of Western culture.
Our Misision is as follows:

  • To provide a forest monastery where ordained monks and nuns can live while cultivating Sila (morality), Samadhi (concentration) and Panna (wisdom)To serve as a Buddhism promotion center in the U.S.
  • To serve as a meditation center in Pittsburgh
  • To promote virtues, Buddhist culture and traditions
  • To be a center of all Buddhists, regardless of nationalities

The retreats and monastic training will be determined and run by the senior monastic residents. The Board of Directors’ function is to assist and support the monastery and monastics in the continued realization of our vision.

Formalized in November 20, 2012

WHO IS THE LEAD MISSIONARY?

Phramaha Piya Uttamapanyo has been the Lead Monk here since 2011. He is looking for ways to build bridges to a cynical and jaded society.
One of distinct thing about ourtemple is what we’re an all -generations community. there’s a place for you here. Tracing The Village’s history takes us back to the heart of our mission—to bring glory to buddha by making disciples through gospel-centered puja, gospel-centered community, gospel-centered service and gospel-centered multiplication.
